In Minnesota she worked at a regional theater, where her character in Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999) was a mockumentary about pages of beauty. Her screen debut was a huge success with the role of an unfriendly, but obnoxious contestant, Janet moved into Los Angeles where she began an acting career professionally. Over the course of the 1960s, Leigh starred in a variety of films, such as Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho and Living It Up.
