Annette Funicello was 13 years old when she was discovered by the studio's head Walt Disney dancing in an amateur production of Swan Lake in Fullerton California. Funicello wasn't asked to take part in the auditions when she was a member of in the Mickey Mouse Club cast in the very first season of the show and much at her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' disappointment.
